Otology & Neurotology is a sub-specialty of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (also known as ‘Ear Nose and Throat’ or ‘ENT’) and is exclusively focused on treating hearing loss and pathologies in the ear and surrounding structures, including those at the brain and ear interface.
To become an otologist/neurotologist in the US, one must complete 5 years of surgical residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery after medical school, and then complete 2 years of additional fellowship training at an accredited institution focusing solely on ear and skull base surgery.
Otologists/Neurotologists work closely with audiologists, who are experts at performing and interpreting auditory and vestibular diagnostic tests. We also work with neurosurgeons when operating on skull base tumors such as acoustic neuromas/vestibular schwannomas.
If you are having hearing challenges, our practice can provide a comprehensive evaluation of your hearing loss and provide potential solutions. If you are a hearing aid candidate, our licensed audiologists can consult with you on the best type of hearing aid that is right for you. Our practice is also experienced with placing bone anchored hearing implants, if that is the right implant for you.
We are a high-volume cochlear implant center, and we partner with audiologists specialized in managing cochlear-implant recipients to bring the best and most comprehensive care to our patients. We work with all FDA-approved cochlear implant companies including Advanced Bionics, Cochlear Corporation, and Med-El.
